1:24PM - Update of sorts

Hey everyone...

I know it has been a really long time since I last posted any kind of entry, and have been meaning to write up a little bit about what has been going on in the world of ME hehe.. so I will make this just a summary version for right now. If you would like to know more and or details feel free to ask.

Well, the end of June- broke up with the boyfriend..

Then in early July my work paid for a day trip to Six Flags in MD.. twas my first time at any Six Flags park, and honestly it lives up to all that people say. Fortunately everything was paid for, I was allowed to bring some friends with me and I didn't have to go to work that day- so yay. It was a fairly long day but we managed to get there really early (like right when the park opened.. not a lot of traffic :)  which was nice). We went on a few of the more popular rides.. Superman- which was eh, fun but no big deal.. we went on the Joker which was decent and then the Batman one.. that was ok.. felt as though I was going to fall out when started flipping around and kind of flying through the air.. not the most comfy ride but definitely an experience. We found out about an hour later that after we had gone on those rides.. they broke down.. figures for Six Flags. Just thought it was odd but kind of cool that we were at least able to ride them before that happened. I definitely don't think I would go back.. yay for Kings Dominion though..hehe.

Then it was my dad's b-day/ parents anniversary, little did we know it would be the last :( :(

Now to the really sad part of this post. As most of you know by now my world was turned upside down with the loss of my father. Tomorrow will be a month since his passing and the memory of receiving the worst phone call of my entire life. I won't go into details here for many reasons.. I have been meaning to post about it, but have had a lot of other things on my mind and to take care of and have just been putting it off a bit I guess.

I appreciate all of you being there for my family and I.. whether it was by a message, wall post, phone call, card, flower/gift basket, those that were able to come to the service/funeralhanging out or a simple hug (you know how I love those).. it has meant more than words can say. I love you all.

Now for some exciting/ happier news.. I am moving out!! Yay.. it's finally happening haha. Granted I am not moving that far.. but it is still a huge step. I will also been close to my mom (for those that were wondering).. so I can go over there and help a bit and she is more than welcome to come over to our townhouse hehe.

Anywho.. that's my summarized update for now... back to work I go hehe.

10:53AM - Frozen in Grand Central Station

This is absolutely GREAT!!!

This is a prank on a 'grand' scale.  Over 200 people gathered at Grand Central Station in New York to pull off a 'frozen in place' act.  The onlooking travelers who weren't part of the act were mystified as to what was going on.

Check out 'Frozen in Grand Central Station - Video'

I thought this was pretty cool.. and thus decided to share it with others.. hehe.

8:38PM - 10 Things You Should Never Do at Work

Some fun reading for ya........

To avoid a serious faux pas – and possible career sabotage – stay clear of the following 10 workplace sins:

1. Stealing
Whether you think that the company “owes” you things like Post-its, pens and other office supplies, or you simply don’t think it’s a big deal, you should be sure about that in case your boss or co-worker catches you. Stealing can not only get you fired, it’s illegal.

2. Blaming someone else for your mistake
It’s dishonest, childish and tacky. Very tacky.  Sure, having to admit you made a mistake is embarrassing, but not nearly as embarrassing as it would be to have to admit you lied about it or tried to cover it up.

3. Spreading gossip
Who knows why people get a certain high from hearing juicy gossip. Many of us are guilty of passing along at least a few rumors at times, but the more you can avoid doing so, the better off you will be. Try to avoid it. In addition, if you hear it, don’t repeat it.

4. Calling in sick when you are perfectly healthy …
If you wake up and just cannot face the idea of going in to work, there’s no reason (unless this happens every day) you shouldn’t give yourself a vacation, personal or mental health day. Nevertheless, calling in sick is not only irresponsible and insensitive to the co-workers who have to cover for you, it could also be grounds for firing if you’re caught.

5. … Or showing up when you aren’t
The admiration your co-workers show you for coming in to work despite having the flu will be short-lived: It won’t take long for those around you to tire of hearing hacking, sniffling and coughing coming from your desk, nor will they appreciate being exposed to your germs.

6. Abusing office technology
This includes (but is not limited to): spending a significant amount of time on personal phone calls, e-mails or instant messages; using office time to type and print out the pieces of your screenplay; going online to catch up on last night’s episode of “My Life on the D List”; and using the office printer to make the invites to your holiday party.

7. Involving co-workers in your personal problems
If problems at home are distracting you from doing your job, that’s one thing, which you should take up with the boss or human resources. But involving your co-workers in your personal problems is distracting and unprofessional.

8. Getting too comfortable
Dressing professionally is just as important as behaving professionally in the workplace. No matter how long you’ve been with the company, how “cool” your boss is, how much sleep you got the night before, or how cold or hot it is outside, you should always maintain a clean, workplace-appropriate appearance.  Even if you work in a relatively casual office, you should still make the effort to wear clean clothes and have well-groomed hair.  A good rule of thumb is to never dress better than your boss, nor worse.

9. Hitting on your boss
This one has “Lifetime movie” written all over it. For every successful office romance story, there’s a disaster story to match it.  When co-workers hook up, it always makes for a tricky situation; when one worker is subordinate to the other, the stakes get even higher. Unless you are well aware of your employer’s policy regarding office romances and are prepared for the possibility of rejection, avoid this one altogether.

10. Hitting on your employee
Consider all of the above, and add to that a possible sexual harassment suit.

6:15PM - Happy Jew Yr/ Sematic fun

Here is a mini update for ya...

Wed and Thursday I went to temple and was able to amuse myself with my parents. Then Thursday evening I went with my friend Zander- from Raddy and we trekked up to Frederick, MD. The only way either of us were going to go up there was with someone. The drive took us about an hr and 15 min, and then another 20 min to find parking. I didn't like MD already.. not one of my favorite states, as I have told some of you. We ventured up to the Old Towne Tavern to go hear Sematic. This show was sponsored by DC101 in association with the group getting their debut song on the radio Sunday evening :) The show was interesting, Historic Frederick, MD is not where you wanna be at night time, or get lost. But the drinks were reallly cheap- major plus.

Friday, I waited around to hear some really good news, and decided to go out to Fairfax and hang out, hear a couple decent bands and get out of the house. I did in fact receive some very good news (which I shall share in the next lil bit) But I went out with a friend to Firehouse to go see the Vicious Martinis- gotta love that name huh? hehe. We ended up running into some of the guys from the group ThatGuy, who I had gone to see in Herndon the weekend before. After that we went to Auld Shebeen to meet up with a group of people from Sematic and their group of friends. Ran into Lauren McDonald..that was interesting. But all in all it was a good time, even though the weather was crappy.

Ok.. now on to the really good and happy news....wait for it...wait for it... I HAVE A JOB!!!!!! Woohooooo:) I start tomorrow as the Content Specialist for the company WiderThan Americas, whom just got bought up by RealNetworks, in Reston. So, I am pretty darn excited. Celebrate, yay!

Sunday night was a mixture of the Emmy's and going to the Sematic Radio Debut Party for their song Dissent :) It was a really cold but fun time.

Here is a lil Jew Humor.. all my Honorary Jews will appreciate this ..hehe...
According to the Jewish Calendar, the year will be 5768.
According to the Chinese calendar, the year will be 4705.
That means that for 1,063 years the Jews went without Chinese Food.
Those were known as the Dark Ages.

7:36PM - long, sad & emotional week

It all started when I heard the shocking and saddening news from a friend from RU on Tuesday evening. My good friend Nathan Marti was killed by a drunk driver. Here's the official news story...

http://www.nbc4.com/news/13443002/detail.html?dl=headlineclick

Once it started to really hit me, the word of mouth had spread all over, through facebook and myspace, in AIM profiles and away messages.

As the news got around, we were  all wondering what the funeral or memorial arrangements might include, considering the sudden tragedy that no one expected. I found out a couple of days later that there was to be a viewing on Friday and then the funeral and other services would be held in Manassas.

This was one of the hardest experiences I have had to deal with in my life. I held my composure for the majority of the weekend. But a couple of times my friends who came out and I just broke down into tears. It was sad that it took such an occasion to bring most of us back together (after 2 years or so), sort of like a mini RU reunion. At least we were all there for each other.

To everyone and anyone who reads this..whether you comment or not, I would just like to say that I love you all. I am here for you no matter what. I am grateful to have you in my life.

Every moment, every celebration, every pictures is incredibly precious.

Thank you

12:41AM - happy fun times..

hey all..
sorry I have been a total slacker in updating on here, but here is a lil bit of shtuff I have been doing these past few weekends and whatnot.

Memorial Day Weekend was kick ass! I have not been that busy in a looong time. It was full of fun stuff and I was literally all over place. That friday night I went with a friend to see Guys and Dolls by a community theater group in Annandale. It was a pretty decent show considering.. I was not expecting such a vast age difference in the cast.  Then after the show we both went to meet up with a whole bunch of other people at the Sematic show at the Firehouse Grill in Fairfax. Awesome show as always, especially being the first performance with the 2 new band members. after the show, it was early enough that we went to the after party, just sat and chilled for a while chatting and whatnot.

Saturday started much earlier than I would have liked, with an appointment and a couple of errands, Then it was out again.. back to Fairfax, only this time the guys were performing in the afternoon at T.T. Reynolds. Was a decent show, and even ran into a few friends I hadn't seen in a while. After the show and hanging out some it was off on some more party errands and other places to be people to be with. I went off to Jeff's new move in day/house warming party/ Lara's 21st b-day celebration in Herndon. We hung out there for about and hr and a half or so..drank had some really good bbq. Then it was back to Vienna for the next outting. I met up with Ing & Meg and Britt and her friend. We drank some and then eventually ventured off to DC by metro to meet up with some of Britt's friends at a club.. K Street Lounge and Lima.  At this point I was only running on fumes but still managed to enjoy my time. That's a whole nother story right there.

Sunday was another occupied day.. but at least it stayed in town for the most part. My parents and I made the rounds at Viva Vienna as per usual.. in the incredibly hot sun.. wow. Then after it beating down on us for a couple hours and eating we ventured back home. I sat down for about an hour and then headed off to Ing and Britt's father's house for a bbq. Meg's brother came over and we all hung out. watched a movie.. of Elvis of course.hehe. Then got a call to go into Fairfax and meet up with Dom, Christy and a few other people at Auld Shebene. So we all went out and had a couple drinks and hung out, listened to a couple of bands try and play... twas interesting, but all in good fun.

Monday was full of sleeping in..relaxing and recovering from the massive weekend..

The next weekend.. Friday I went out with David- who came up to go to see Dave Attell for free at the Lincoln Theater in DC. It was a lot of fun.. and it was being filmed for HBO... so there is a really good chance we will be on tv :) Then we ventured to Ballston- since we were already on our way home on the metro.. needed food and a beverage.plus my good friend Drew works in that mall and could meet up with us after he got off.  Saturday night I went out and met up w/ a couple of pple at Ned's in Herndon to hear the band That Guy- awesome cover band..would definitely recommend checking them out.

ok.. done- sorry it turned out longer than I thought, but then again I tend not to post for a long time..haha

And if you're my mother, nothing has changed since we spoke for an hour last night.
13. I will be out of the office for the next 2 weeks for medical reasons... When I return, please refer to me as 'Margaret' instead of 'Steve.'

8:45PM - Girls vs women

Girls leave their schedule wide-open and wait for a guy to call and make plans.
Grown women make their own plans and nicely tell the guy to get in where he fits.

Girls want to control the man in their life.
Grown women know that if he's truly hers, he doesn't need controlling.

Girls check you for not calling them.
Grown women are too busy to realize you hadn't.

Girls are afraid to be alone.
Grown women revel in it-using it as a time for personal growth.

Girls ignore the good guys.
Grown women ignore the bad guys.

Girls make you come home.
Grown women make you want to come home.

Girls worry about not being pretty and/or good enough for their man.
Grown women know that they are pretty and/or good enough for any man.

Girls try to monopolize all their man's time (i.e., don't want him hanging with his friends).
Grown women realize that a lil' bit of space makes the 'together time' even more special-and goes to kick it with her own friends.

Girls think a guy crying is weak.
Grown women offer their shoulder and a tissue.

Girls want to be spoiled and 'tell' their man so.
Grown women 'show' him and make him comfortable enough to reciprocate without fear of losing his 'manhood'.

Girls get hurt by one man and make all men pay for it.
Grown women know that that was just one man.

Girls fall in love and chase aimlessly after the object of their affection, ignoring all 'signs'.
Grown women know that sometimes the one you love, don't always love you back-and move on, without bitterness.

Girls will read this and get an attitude.
Grown women will read this and pass it on to other Grown women and their male friends.
